Privacy Policy — Before You Go

Last updated: August 7, 2026

Before You Go ("the app," "we," "us") is a weather-reminder app that watches the forecast and tells you what to wear, bring, and prepare for. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and who it's shared with.

Data we collect

DataWhy we collect itRequired?
An anonymous device identifier Created automatically the first time you open the app so your preferences and reminders persist between sessions, with no sign-up required. Yes — this is how the app works even if you never create an account.
Email address (via Google Sign-In) Only if you choose to sign in with Google — lets you recover your account and reminders on a new device, and is required to purchase a Premium subscription. No — optional, and only for Premium purchases or multi-device access.
Location (latitude/longitude) The core of the app — used to fetch your forecast and generate reminders for your home and any other locations you add (e.g. a routine tied to a different city). Yes, for the app's core functionality. You can enter a location manually instead of granting GPS permission.
Push notification token Used to deliver reminder notifications to your device via Firebase Cloud Messaging. Cleared automatically if you disable notifications. No — only collected if you enable notifications.
Routine, threshold, and preference settings What you tell the app about your routines (commute time, school pickups), sensitivities, and what you care about (pets, plants, driving) — used only to personalize your recommendations. No — all optional, defaults are used otherwise.
Symptom logs (Health Journal, Premium, opt-in) If you turn on the Health Journal, you can log symptom days (e.g. migraine, joint pain, sinus pressure, fatigue) with an optional note, tied to one of your locations. See "Health information" below for how this is used. No — off by default, and only collected if you explicitly enable it in Settings.
Subscription/purchase status Whether you have an active Premium subscription, managed through Google Play Billing via RevenueCat, so the app can unlock Premium features. No — only relevant if you subscribe.
Advertising identifier Free-tier users see ads served through Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising ID to serve and measure ads. Premium subscribers never see ads and this identifier isn't used for you. No — Premium removes this entirely; Free users can decline personalized ads via the consent prompt where required by law.

Health information

The Health Journal is an entirely optional, Premium feature. If you turn it on, you can log "symptom days" (migraine, joint pain, sinus pressure, fatigue, or other) with an optional note, and the app begins recording daily weather conditions — like barometric pressure changes, air quality, and pollen — for the location tied to that journal.

We use this only to show you personal patterns between your logged symptoms and weather at your location, for example "3 of your last 4 logged migraine days followed a pressure drop." For Premium subscribers who've opted in and logged enough history, we also use it to surface a "possible trigger today" indicator on the home screen. This is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a prediction — it's a plain statistical observation drawn from your own self-reported data, and Before You Go is not a medical device or healthcare provider. Talk to a doctor about migraines, joint pain, or any ongoing symptoms.

Symptom logs and the associated weather history are never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with any third party beyond the infrastructure providers listed below that host the app and its database. You can delete an individual entry at any time from the Health Journal screen. Turning the feature off in Settings stops new data from being collected but doesn't delete what's already logged — for that, delete entries individually or request full account deletion (see "Data retention and deletion").

Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data (locations, routines, reminder history, Health Journal entries, and any linked email) at any time from Settings. You can also contact us at the address below if you'd rather we do it for you.

Children's privacy

Before You Go is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) between the app and our servers. Access to the underlying database is restricted to the app's own backend service.
